Shock Mountain

My best friend, Joe, sent me this album saying that it was something for the experimental fans who frequent my blog. Knowing that he listens to much more electronic music than I do, it seemed worthy of checking out if nothing else. Damn, this album is onslaught after fucking onslaught of fast IDM beats and creative vocals. Hearts Of Darknesses were previously on tour with Girl Talk and their style has changed dramatically since this album. The new Hearts Of Darknesses material is more centered in Indie Rock, whereas this is just one guy, a computer, and his voice. Screams, squeals, shouts, hollers, and yells are scattered all throughout this album. Download this only if you truly have an open approach to electronic music, because it is sure to scare off more than a couple of people.

Honestly, I really wish this band was around when I was 15. This is pretty much exactly what I was looking for around that time. The vocals on this album are raw and have an energy that is literally inescapable. I challenge you to listen to this 8 song demo and not feel moved. Reminds me a lot of Thrice circa The Illusion Of Safety, if they had a slightly less refined sound. I’m definitely interested in seeing where this band takes things because I could see it going either way. Hopefully, they will continue to pump out solid material like this.
